About Me

Kia ora, I’m Awhimai — a seasoned advocate, leadership coach, and proud Māori wāhine with over 25 years of experience working alongside individuals, whānau, and organisations across Aotearoa.

I founded Awhimai Advocacy to offer something different — a safe space for people facing workplace challenges to be seen, heard, and supported in a way that upholds their mana. My approach is grounded in Te Ao Māori values like whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, tika, and aroha. Whether you're navigating redundancy, discrimination, bullying, or just need someone in your corner, I’m here to tautoko you with strength, clarity, and compassion.

I’m based in Wellington and support clients across Aotearoa, with sessions held in-person, online or by phone — whichever works best for you.

Why We Do This Mahi

At Awhimai Advocacy, we stand with people who are navigating harm or unfairness in the workplace — whether that’s bullying, racism, redundancy, or being made to feel voiceless.

This mahi was born from the lived experiences of my whānau, friends, and the many people I’ve supported over the years. It’s about restoring mana, upholding dignity, and making sure no one walks alone.

Grounded in kaupapa Māori values like whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, and tika — this is advocacy with aroha and backbone.

FAQs

What does an employment advocate do?

I support people who are experiencing unfair treatment at work - like bullying, redundancy, discrimination, or disputes - and help you understand your rights, write letters, or navigate the personal grievance process.

Can I pay in instalments?

Āe, payment plans are available for some services. Just let me know during our kōrero.

Do I need a lawyer, or can you help instead?

Many issues can be resolved without needing a lawyer. I can help you write a PG letter, prepare for mediation, and guide you through the process. If legal advice is needed, I can refer you to someone trusted.

Is your service confidential?

Absolutely. Everything you share with me is private, protected, and handled with the utmost respect and care.

How much does it cost?

I offer a free 20-minute kōrero, and my paid services include a Quick Kōrero for $145 +GST, PG Letter & Strategy for $495 +GST, and full advocacy packages. All pricing is listed in the Services section.

Do you only work with Māori clients?

Not at all. While my approach is grounded in Te Ao Māori values, I support anyone who values respectful, mana-enhancing advocacy.
